(Scene: The giant door to the Wizards castle. All three stand at the door about to knock.)
Narrator: Far, far away in the land of Oz, there was a great and powerful wizard.
At one time, a Lion, a Scarecrow and a Tinman came to him in need of something only the great wizard could give them. The Wizard gave the Lion the strength of courage, the Scarecrow a brain, and the Tinman a heart. Now, at the wizards call, theyve returned to the magnificent castle.
Lion: (to Scarecrow, stuttering) I I I knocked the first time . YOU knock
Scarecrow: ME knock? So what happened to that courage thing the Wizard gave you?
Tinman: (to Scarecrow) Come on, give em a break.
Lion: YEAH! . what he said
Scarecrow: Okay, So since youve got such a "great big heart" now, why dont YOU knock for him?
Tinman: That wizard mustve only given you HALF a brain.
Scarecrow: Ive got brain enough to woop your little aluminum
(The three gather around together about to brawl )
Wizard: (in a loud booming voice) WHO GOES THERE!!!!!!!!!!????
Scarecrow: (now stuttering) It its us Lion, Scarecrow and Tinman. We got your message to come here so
Wizard: ENTER!!! .
(Lion, Scarecrow and Tinman hurriedly rush in as the doors open. Its dark and they are looking around trying to figure out where to go)
Wizard: SIT!!!
(Lion, Scarecrow and Tinman notice three chairs and rush over to sit down. Wizard walks in without a word. He begins pacing back and forth in front of them, looking over them)
Scarecrow: (leans over and whispers to Tinman) Your mother was a Ford Pinto!
Wizard: SILENCE!!!.. (pause) Thank you for coming. I have called you here to ask you each a question. (pause) YOU, Tinman please stand up.
(Tinman clumsily scrambles to his feet in front of the Wizard)
Wizard: Tinman, YOU asked me for a heart. After receiving this heart, tell me how have you used it?
Tinman: Oh great and most wise of wizards
Scarecrow: (to Lion whispers) Suckup.
Tinman: As youll recall, last spring the Wicked Witch of the West met her demise in a dreadful accident involving a bucket of water. Since that time, the Mortgage Company repossessed her castle and evicted all the flying monkeys. With my new heart of kindness I set up a homeless shelter for dispossessed flying monkeys, and have made provisions for an employment service to find each one a new job.
Wizard: Well done, good and faithful tincan er.. man. How creatively you used your talent. You may sit. (pause) LION!!
(Lion scrambles to his feet)
Lion: Yes sir! (salutes)
Wizard: You asked me for the strength of courage tell me, what have you done with this new boldness
Lion: (with a puffed and proud chest) Sir Wizard Sir, I have used my gift to lead a rehabilitation group for those poor munchkins who, as a result of the Witches death, feel water will corrode their skin, causing them to melt into a goopy green puddle . Sir!
Wizard: (slightly confused) I see. (pause) Nice work, you may sit. (pause) Now, SCARECROW
(Scarecrow proudly stands to his feet and presents himself to the Wizard)
Wizard: And finally, what have YOU done with your newfound wisdom?
Scarecrow: I will have you know that I have found the calculation that proves the exact amount of bricks it took to build the yellow brick road and the precise solution of the mixture used to integrate them together into the pattern that they are at this current time.
Wizard: YOU FOOL!!! You wicked, lazy haystack. I laid those bricks and I can tell everything youve just jabbered. You could not even spend your time on a more meaningful problem, like how to increase someones height! For this I am taking away your brain and giving it to the Tinman.
(The Tinman stands up excitedly)
And you shall be banished from Oz forever into a land of utter darkness, where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth
Scarecrow: Oh no! Youre not sending me to
Wizard: YES! PASCO, WASHINGTON!
(Lion and Tinman escort Scarecrow off the stage)
Scarecrow: Noooooooooo!!! Anything but that!!!!
Narrator: And so because he let his gift go to waste, Scarecrow was banished from Oz never to be heard from again. And thus ends our story Join us next time for "Toto Slays the Giant".
