Script

(Scene: Adam and Eve are off stage [if you can accommodate, have them with wireless mics, as some of their dialog occurs as they are approaching the stage] Narrator stands at microphone, or is also wearing wireless mic.)

Narrator: We are all familiar with the story of Adam and Eve; how God created them and placed them in the garden, where they lived in communion with Him. Unfortunately, we also know how things went astray. How must they have felt, knowing what their situation once was, and what it had now become. Let’s look in, and see how things were going, “outside the garden.”

[Narrator steps to side of stage as Adam and Eve approach. Narrator watches their conversation. Adam and Eve look depressed, complaining. As they talk, they approach the front and step up on the stage]

Adam: Well this is just great. Here we are, kicked out of the garden.

Eve: I know. And things had been going so well, too. We had just finished naming all the animals.

Adam: Yeah, that was fun. And I had just gotten all the seed baring plants categorized, too!

Eve: [Looks around] Well, it looks like we’re stuck out here now.

Adam”: Yup. [stomps down on the stage] Man, this is hard ground for farming! He wasn’t kidding about “painful toil.” [Mutters to himself, but can be heard by audience] And all because you had to talk to that stupid snake.

Eve: Hey, I heard that! This isn’t my fault! I was just making conversation. I didn’t know anything like this was going to happen!

Adam: Well what did you think would happen? “Don’t eat this fruit,” God says. So what do you do? “Mmmm, looks tasty!”

Eve: Well I didn’t see you stopping me. You just stood there and listened to the whole thing. Not an “Eve, don’t do this,” or a “Hey, put that down.” And when I gave you some, you chowed right down!

Adam: [sheepish] Okay, okay, I guess we both could of handled it differently.

Eve: What are we going to do now? Do you think we could try to sneak back in?

Adam: No way! I’m still putting on burn ointment from my last encounter with that cherub. Man, you wouldn’t think such a little guy could swing such a big flaming sword!

Eve: Well it looks like we’re stuck out here then.

Adam: Alone.

Eve: Nowhere to go, no chance of ever reconciling with God.

Adam & Eve [Together]: We’re doomed.

Narrator: [Approaches Adam & Eve] Hold on now! Don’t give up hope just yet!

Adam & Eve: Who are you?

Narrator: I’m the Narrator.

Adam & Eve: [looking confused] Narrator? What’s a Narrator?

Narrator: I provide for the dramatic unfolding of events and give perspective to situations and transitions.

Adam & Eve: [deadpan] Oh

Narrator: Anyway, I’m here to help you reconsider your situation. I mean, you’re still alive, right? God could have just smote you with a lightening bolt for what you did, right? But He didn’t. So you must still have some chance, right?

Eve: But we messed up! He gave us one simple law to follow, and we couldn’t do it. Do we even have a chance of making things right?

Adam: [trying to be positive] Well, maybe we can do it ourselves. We’ll have to just try harder and be better. I bet if we put our minds to it, we can earn our way back into the Garden!

Narrator: So, how’s that “doing it on your own” worked out so far?

Adam: Oh, yeah, good point. But what do we do? We’re flawed, and we’re bound to keep messing up. Will God ever love us again?

Narrator: Who said God didn’t love you?

Eve: He kicked us out of the Garden, didn’t He? Doesn’t that mean He doesn’t love us anymore?

Narrator: What was it like when you were with God in the garden?

Adam & Eve: Ah, it was perfect. We would walk and talk, and just be together. It felt complete. We loved it!

Narrator: That’s because God IS Love! His very essence, His being, is Love. He can’t help but love you. And He still does.

Eve: But then why’d He kick us out?

Narrator: Well, you broke His law. Actions have consequences. But He’s already planning for the reconciliation.

Adam & Eve: He is?

Narrator: He has to. As you pointed out, you aren’t going to be able to do it on your own. And there’s nothing God wants more than a full relationship with you. But, you’ve got a lot to learn. There’s a lot to be set in place before the relationship will be fully restored.

Adam & Eve: So what do we do in the meantime?

Narrator: Keep trying to follow Him. He’ll send guide, teachers, preachers and prophets to show you the way. Hopefully you won’t stone too many of them. But keep at it. He won’t give up on you, so don’t give up on Him.

Adam: [looking at Eve] It looks like we have quite a journey to go through.

Eve: [back to Adam] But if we keep looking to God, we’ll get there.

Narrator: Good luck. And God Bless.

[All three exit]
