Summary: This skit was written for Kindergarten students.  The purpose was to look at what the bible actually says and what we think we know.  Before we started, we asked the kids how they knew their parents loved them, and we brainstormed ideas.  For the end of the skit, we asked each kid how they know that Jesus loves them, and their answers were fantastic.  For the one child that said he did not know that Jesus loved him, I just told him “Jesus loves you.”  At the ending part of the skit, when asked for his reason, he said, “because you told me so.”
Style:  Dramatic.   Duration: 6min
Actors: 2M/F, 6C

Characters:
Adult Leader
Adult helper who has computer access
Several Kids-we had six-could easily adjust to more or less

Setting: The setting was at the front of the sanctuary.  The kids were pretending to present a song they had prepared for our closing worship at our weekly youth program.  The kids stood in a line, and passed one mic down the line one way, then back again.  We practiced the skit 3 or 4 times, and they still needed their lines fed to them.  Since my back was to the congregation, I just flipped my wireless mic on mute to feed them lines.

Script

Adult:  OK kids, are you ready?  (turns around to the congregation).  Weclome everyone!  Our Kindergarten students have prepared a special song for our worship tonight.  We hope you enjoy it!
(Adult  directs the kids to start singing…..)
Kids:  Jesus loves me, this I know, for the bible tells me so…. (Kid 1 raises her hand and everybody stops)
Kid 1:  Mrs. (Adult), where does it say “Jesus loves me” in the bible?
Adult:  Well, I’m not exactly sure, hey (Adult Helper), will you look that up real quick?
Adult Helper:  Sure! (tap tap tap on the computer)………………… Well, I put Jesus loves me in the Biblegateway  search engine, and nothing comes up.  I guess it doesn’t!
Adult:  Hmmmm...
Kid 2:  Raises his hand So it doesn’t say Jesus loves me in the bible?
Adult:  Well, maybe not in those exact words, but I bet we can find something in scripture that means Jesus loves me.   For example, in John 3:16 it says for God so loved the world, he gave his only begotten son, that whoever believes in him should never die, but have eternal life.
Kid 3:  But that says God, not Jesus.
Adult:  Well, that is true.  (Adult Helper), help me out here!
Adult Helper:  Let’s see.  (type type) Where does it say “Jesus loves me” in the bible?  OK here are a bunch.  How about 1 John 4:19: We love because he first loved us.
Kid 4:  That doesn’t say “Jesus loves me.”
Adult Helper:  OK, how about 1 John 4:16: So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.
Kid 5:  That doesn’t say “Jesus loves me.”
Adult Helper:  Well how about  Matthew 22: 37-39: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself."
Kid 6:  That doesn’t say “Jesus loves me.”
Adult Helper:  OK, this one for sure. John 13:34: “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another."
Kid 6:  Nope.  So it doesn’t say “Jesus loves me” in the bible?
Kid 5:  So it doesn’t say “Jesus loves me” in the bible?
Kid 4: So it doesn’t say “Jesus loves me” in the bible?
Kid 3: So it doesn’t say “Jesus loves me” in the bible?
Kid 2: So it doesn’t say “Jesus loves me” in the bible?
Kid 1:  So, if it doesn’t actually say Jesus love me, how do I know that he does?
Adult:  You know, there are many different ways to say I love you, and most of them are not in words.   Think of your parents.  They tell you they love you, but they also do things like make you a special meal, or buy clothes in colors you like, or even make you eat your vegetables all because they love you.  Jesus showed us he loved us in all of his actions for humankind and through dying for us on the cross
Adult:  Kid 1-how do you know Jesus loves you?
Kid 1:  (have kids come up with their own reasons.)
Adult:  Kid 2-how do you know Jesus loves you?
Kid 2:  (have kids come up with their own reasons.)
Adult:  Kid 3-how do you know Jesus loves you?
Kid 3:  (have kids come up with their own reasons.)
Adult:  Kid 4-how do you know Jesus loves you?
Kid 4:  (have kids come up with their own reasons.)
Adult:  Kid 5-how do you know Jesus loves you?
Kid 5:  (have kids come up with their own reasons.)
Adult:  Kid 6-how do you know Jesus loves you?
Kid 6:  (have kids come up with their own reasons.)
Adult:  See, you all know Jesus loves you!  Now, let’s sing our song.  Congregation, why don’t you join us?
(Close by all singing Jesus Loves Me.)
