The Chalkboard

By Sarah Musselwhite

Summary

No matter how many times you mess up, and no matter how hard you try to forget it, God always comes to the rescue. This mume was written to go with the song "Grace", by Silas Bald. It works best using black (ultraviolet) light, which illuminates the clothes, but leaves the performers dark.

Characters

The Sinner (dressed in normal street clothes)
God (dressed in white)
Six White Handed Sins (dressed in black)

Script

The sinner comes in thoroughly depressed, sits down at a desk, and puts head in hands.

Lights down. When completely dark...

Song: "Grace" by Silas Bald.

As soon as the song starts, the first Sin steps out and writes a specific sin (eg. Greed, Lust, Etc). The other six sins follow in turn.

When all six are done, the sinner attempts to wipe the board, but doesn't succeed, and only smears it. The sinner returns to the desk, depressed.

The second set of Sins go up on the board, and the sinner again tries to get rid of this, with no better result than the first time. The Sins are clearly embarassed. The sinner sits back down defeated, cries, lays head down.

The Sins write a third time on the board, and the sinner tries one last time to wipe the board clean, with the same result. The Sins fall to their knees and hang their heads, clearly ashamed.

Then God (who has been standing off to the side the whole time, steps up and begins cleaning the board. The Sins come and kneel around the sinner. When God is finished, he picks up the sinner and shows them that all sins have been washed away. As the song ends, all the white hands raise their hands in praise.
