Death's Illusion

Sometimes I'm hot
and others cold
Though I'm young
I can yet feel old
Sometimes I'm up
and others down
Treading water as I drown

I can't swim forever,
that I know
The hungry grave
will always grow
Closer, nearer,
dragging me in
Yet still,
I will not simply
let it win

Every sorrow will
in time fade
Just as every joy will
feel the blade
Yesterday's memories
can not sing
Of what new songs
doth tommorow bring

And so I laugh,
I cry
I live,
and shall die
Among each transient
ever-changin' day
But this,
Better this,
than static constant
within
Death's cloak grey
