NARRATOR: In the beginning, God created man and woman and they lived in fellowship with Him in the beautiful garden of Eden.

(Adam and Eve stand side by side, holding hands; adam upstage, Eve down stage.  God figure stands facing them, holding their hands, smiling at them.)

But Satan tempted Eve to disobey God by eating the one  fruit forbidden to them.

(Satan figure taps Eve on the shoulder.  She looks around them back to God -- who is not smiling -- then looks back at Satan, who is fondling an imaginary piece of fruit.  Eve lets go of God's hand to take the fruit and eat.)

Eve ate the fruit and gave it to Adam, who offered no resistance.

(Adam lets go of God's hand to take fruit and eat.  God puts hands on hips.  Adam & Eve wipe free hands and extend them to God, with a look of embarrassment.)

They thought that life could go on as usual after that, but they found their relationship with God was never going to be the same again.

(God points at his mouth, then at Adam & Eve's.  They realize that God knows and hurriedly try to wipe juice off their faces, and extend hands again, but they see God's stern look and pull hands back, putting them behind their backs.)

Had not God said that day they ate of the fruit the would surely die?

(They cannot stand God's stern gaze, and drop their heads.)

At the moment of disobedience, something inside them died -- the spiritual side of them that knew God.

(They clutch their chests, while God turns his back on them.)

God sent them out of the garden where they lived.

(Without turning around, God points away, behind them.  They turn sorrowfully away, towards Satan who is enticing them.)

Their sin had created a barrier between them and God.

(They turn back and reach out to God, but slam into an invisible wall.)

Satan also created division between people.

(Satan chops their hands apart.  They mime the following words:)

(Adam: "It was all your fault!", Eve: "But you are the fruit too!")
People did not know God and they did not understand each other.

(Eve looks at Adam sideways with hurt expression.  Then she lashes out, miming a torrent of screaming abuse.  Adam raises a hand as if to strike her, she winces, they freeze.)

Though they might seek God, they could never find Him.

(They look aimlessly around)

So some people fashioned gods out of wood and stone...

(Adam carves idol -- Eve as a Hindu goddess -- and bows down to her.)

....but they were not worshipping the true God.

(Adam and Eve huddle together over imaginary books and point to their heads, and towards heaven.)

... they only came up with man-made ideas.

(They seem to have differing options, for they mime and argument, flailing arms and shaking heads, till they end up frowning, arms crossed, back to back.)

Other people tried to live good lives and earn God's favor....

(They kneel together, hands folded in prayer, gesturing towards God.)

...but they never knew if God was really pleased.

(They look at each other, puzzled, and shrug their shoulders.)

Satan had blinded their eyes so they could not understand spiritual things.

(Satan ties on imaginary blindfolds then yanks them to their feet; they stumble not seeing.  NOTE: Throughout previous section Satan has been gloating over their attempts to find God -- leering and laughing.)

It seemed as if man would always be enslaved to sin.

(Satan ties their hands with rope, and they kneel at his feet.)

But God revealed a plan whereby man could be saved.

(God pulls out a scroll, and slowly unwinds it.)

If there could be found one perfect man who would lay down his life for the sins of the world, the ransom for the captives would be paid, and God's anger appeased.

(God looks out over the audience.)

Satan pointed out that there was not one perfect man, so God had become that man, the man Christ  Jesus.

(Satan points at the audience triumphantly, and shakes his head)

God had just signed his own death warrant.

(God signs scroll, and Satan whips it away.)

Jesus said:  "I love the world this much...

(God spreads his arms wide)

...then He spread his arms and died, like a criminal on a cross, dying not for His own sins, for He had none, but for the sins of the world.  But Jesus Christ did not stay dead, but became alive again.

(God opens eyes, lowers arms.)

He broke down the barrier of sin.....

(God raises fist in victory, them smashes down barrier.)

...and is now seeking those who would believe in Him.

(God walks towards Adam and Eve with hands outstretched.  He begins to take off blindfolds.)

Satan cannot keep those who believe in Christ, because the death warrant has become a ransom note that is paid in full.

(Satan tries to stop God, but He asks for the scroll.  Satan brings it out, God points at signature, etc. and takes scroll back.  Satan has to fall back in dismay.)

Today, God wants to open people's spiritual eyes and free them from sin.

(God takes off blindfolds -- they look at him and hold up rope bound wrists -- He takes rope off and helps them to stand.)

God had reconciled us to Himself and Satan cannot snatch us away because once a child of God, always a child of God.

(They resume their initial stance, holding hands, etc.  Satan tries to  grab Eve's shoulder, but God pulls Eve to His other side, so now they are one on each side.)

If any man is in Christ Jesus, he is a new creature.  Old things have passed away, all things have become new.

(God takes off two white shirts, gives one each to Adam and Ever who put them on.)

Those who believe in Him are clothed in Christ's righteousness and God views them as holy and acceptable.
